Elfin Forest/Harmony Grove Fire Auxiliary

The Fire Auxiliary was founded in the late 1980's by Nils and Friedel Lunnerdaal who recognized that even if you couldn't haul a heavy hose uphill, you could participate in the good spirit of the Fire Department.  Linda McKim followed their start and provided leadership for many years. 

The strong leadership of Joan Hershfeld has guided The Elfin Forest/Harmony Grove Fire Auxiliary to branch out into many     areas. They feed the fire fighters lunch on the Saturday trainings. They feed the firefighters during extended incidents. When called on they provide decorations, food, drinks at various community events.  Have you seen the homemade, any occasion cards they have been selling? Such talent. Such dedication. The Auxiliary is getting quite a reputation for their cooking talent around North County with other fire agencies. One particular CDF crew when on incidents with Elfin Forest always asks, is the auxiliary is coming? They love our Auxiliary’s food.

The women and men on the Auxiliary come with various talents and experiences and provide endless support to the community and the firefighters.  The first priority is to provide food and drinks for Saturday fire training sessions and for emergency responses in the area.  When you are hot and tired from fighting a fire, there is nothing so welcome as food and drinks from the Auxiliary supply vehicle.  While this has been the major function, members also provide child care when fire fighter parents are called away on emergencies.

Current projects of the Auxiliary include developing a Disaster Preparedness Plan for the community.  Given the recent several years of fires, it is clear that some coordination would be a great service.  Members are also beginning to help with administrative tasks required of the Fire Department by the county and the state.  Finally, the Auxiliary members have sponsored the Pancake Breakfasts and contributed to the July Fire Department Picnic and other Fire Department fund raisers.
